Get Prepped For Spring 🌤️🌷
Starting Spring Season 🌸
With more daylight, bluer skies and hints of bright colour returning to nature, it won’t be long until we can say spring has officially sprung. Now’s the best time to start preparing for the changing of the seasons, and get yourself and your pet ready to spring into action. Read on for our top tips and advice to get spring-ready.
Flea and tick prep 🐾
Ticks thrive in warmer weather and can pose significant health risks if left untreated. These parasites latch onto your pet and feed for several days, growing from barely visible lumps to creatures around the size of your little fingernail. Ticks can also carry diseases, like Lyme disease.
Early removal of ticks reduces the chances of disease transmission, and the best prevention method is through routine tick treatments. Petplace suggests using Fipnil Plus spot on as a tick treatment in your pet. It’s easy to use and has a persistent insecticidal efficacy for up to 2 months in fleas.
Signs that your pet may have ticks or fleas could be symptoms like itchy skin, small black marks and raised bumps – and it’s worth having an extra check if they’ve spent a long time outside, especially if they enjoy playing in long grass. It’s important to make sure not to squeeze the tick’s body or leave the head in as this will increase the chance of your pet contracting a disease.
Grooming 🧼
Spring time is the time of the year when many of our beloved pets start to shed their fur. Now is the perfect time to stock up on petplaces’ at home grooming products to give your pet a deep spring clean. Animology has a brilliant range of fresh smelling shampoos to pamper your pet. If at home grooming isn’t your thing, pop down to your local petplace and make use of our dog wash facility that provides shampoo, conditioner and a dryer for all your pet washing needs.
Fittings 🦮
As you begin to increase the amount of time your pet spends outdoors, making sure they are identifiable is more important than ever. Check that collars still fit after your pet has shed their winter coat, and that microchips contain the most up-to-date information so they can be traced back to you if they ever find themselves away from home.

Hydration 💦
As the warmer months approach it’s important to keep note of your dog’s hydration. Dehydration can be a serious danger to our pets. The warm weather can leave your pet’s water bowl warm and stagnant. Petplace recommends using Rock Sulphur. Adding a piece of Rock Sulphur, will cool down water, plus it’s packed with natural salts and minerals and will have a cooling effect on your pet’s blood making the rising temperatures more bearable.

It’s a good idea to bring a portable water bowl and a bottle of water out with you when you take your pet out for a walk in the warmer weather. Don’t forget to take regular breaks and to offer your pet water and encourage them to drink. The Kurgo collaps-a-bowl is brilliant for on the go hydration. It’s easily collapsible and compact, making it easy to pop in or clip onto a rucksack or even slip into a handbag on days out.
By following these tips and being attentive to your pet’s needs, you can ensure their well-being and help them stay happy, healthy, and hydrated all year round.
