Keep your exotic friend cosy and snug as a bug with the Prorep Heat Mat. It is available in three different sizes and should always be used with a thermostat (sold separately). Reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates are very susceptible to fluctuations in temperature and will benefit enormously from a thermostatically controlled heating apparatus such as this. Your pet will thrive in the right conditions and what a wonderful sight it is to watch your exotic friend basking without a care in the world, just waiting for his next nutritious meal. The infra-red radiation provides a gentle background heat that also warms up the animal and furnishings without raising the air temperature too significantly. This is comparable to infra-red radiation produced by the sun which warms animals as they bask in the sun in their natural habitat. The heat mat is easy to install (please see instruction manual supplied). It is vital that these instructions are followed to a tee and, once set up in a vivarium, that the heat mat is left running for at least 48 hours so that the temperature can be carefully monitored before placing your pet inside. The ProRep Ceramic Lamp Holder with Bracket has been made to withstand the high temperatures that radiate from heater lamps. Manufactured to EU Safety Standards and constructed with a high temperature rated 2 metre silicone cable and durable copper contacts, this Lamp holder is compatible with all ProRep heater lamps with an E27 lamp fitting rated up to 300w (sold separately). Easy to use with screw fitting, it is suitable for use within glass or wooden reptile enclosures. The lamp will allow natural thermoregulatory behaviour, helping the reptile to retain heat. If you have a heat mat and you need it to be thermostatically controlled then the MicroClimate Dimmer B1 is the one. Reptiles need an environment that is similar to their natural habitat and the Microclimate Dimmer will help to replicate this with the correct temperature for your exotic friend. Reptiles are not able to control their own body temperature as they are cold blooded animals. This dimming thermostat can be used on all heat sources. A dimming thermostat works by varying the amount of power supplied to the heat from 0 - 1-00%. The heat LED will illuminate yellow and become brighter or dimmer to indicate the power level being sent to your heater. If no power is required to the heater the heat LED will switch off. If the heat LED is on full brightness for prolonged periods of time this may indicate that a more powerful heater is required to achieve the temperature that has been set. Vivariums or terrariums should have areas of differing temperatures - an area for basking which should be warm and an area for cooling down. Therefore, it stands to reason that the thermostat should be placed in a neutral area of the vivarium and not directly under a heating source as this would only give the temperature of the basking area. Most reptiles need a constant temperature of between 21°C and 29°C (70°F - 85°F) to be comfortable. The incorrect temperature can cause misery for some reptiles and even death. However, if you are controlling a heat mat installed underneath a layer of substrate inside the vivarium then we recommend the sensor is placed under the substrate and is attached to the top of the heat mat. This allows direct control of the temperature of the heat mat and not the air temperature. Connect the mains cable from your heat source to the heater socket on the thermostat using a suitable mains plug fitted with a 3 amp fuse. The Ministat 100 is an on/off thermostat and is the ideal thermostat if you are using smaller heating equipment up to 100w, such as a heat mat. The temperature adjuster is recessed preventing it from being accidentally changed.
