Dog
Fireworks Season
Bonfire night can be a blast for us humans, but for our furry friends, it can sometimes be a stressful time. Loud noises and bright lights can be stressful for dogs, but with a little preparation, you can make sure your pooch is relaxed and ready for the big night!
Comfort is key:
Make sure your pet has a safe and comfortable space to retreat to when the fireworks start. This could be a cosy corner with their favourite blanket and toys, or a covered crate where they feel safe and settled. Spray your dogs blanket or bed with a pet-friendly calming spray to help make them feel extra cosy and relaxed.
Keeping your dog entertained:
Keep your dog distracted during the fireworks by providing them with plenty of toys and treats. Puzzle feeders are a great way to keep your dog entertained click here to shop our puzzle range. Kong toys or lick mats are also a great way to keep your dog distracted, simply just fill using some doggie peanut butter or your dogs favourite treats.
Help your dog get used to the sound of fireworks by playing recordings of firework noises at a low volume, gradually increasing the volume over time. This can help desensitize them to loud noises and prevent them from being startled. Some pet owners find that having the tv on or playing music helps keep their furry friend calm by drowning out the noises of fireworks.
Dog Calming Products:
Consider trying dog-calming products for our furry friend. Dog pheromone products are specially designed to mimic the natural pheromones that dogs release when they feel safe and secure by releasing scents that mimic the pheromones that mother dogs produce to calm their puppies, helping your furry friend feel more relaxed and comfortable in any situation. Pheromones products are available in a range of different sprays, collars, and diffusers, and are an effective and safe way to alleviate your dog’s anxiety during the fireworks season.
Finally, make sure your dog is wearing identification tags with your contact information, in case they become frightened and run away during the fireworks. (According to The Kennel Club, 34 per cent more dogs went missing in the two weeks around Bonfire Night in 2021) so it’s important to make sure your pet is identifiable and visible in case of an emergency.
With these tips and tricks, your furry friend should be well-prepared for a fun and cosy fireworks night!
