Everything that you need to know about fleas…
With temperatures rising across the UK, we’re going to be welcoming back every pet owner’s biggest pet peeve – fleas!
Though this may seem like the stuff of nightmares, rest assured that the sneaky little suckers can infiltrate even the cleanest of clean houses.
Many people believe ticks can fly or jump, which makes it easier for them to attach themselves on your pets. This, thankfully, is not the case. They prefer to wait in areas with a lot of wildlife, deep grass, or forests. Then, when they pass by, climb or drop onto your pet’s fur.
Although there is no permanent solution to stop your pet from getting ticks. There are many ways in which you can help your pets avoid the risk of being infected.
Fleas are both a nuisance and very unpleasant, both for pets and their owners. Check out these tips, tricks, and facts about fleas so you are prepared if they should ever make their way into your space.
Signs your pet has fleas
There are several signs that your dog may have fleas, some more evident than others. If the initial symptoms are not treated as soon as possible, it could lead to serious issues, such as damaged skin and hair loss.
Here are some signs your pet has fleas;
- Noticeable “flea droppings” in the coat
- Dry skin
- Biting and scratching at the skin
- Scabs, pimples, or lesions
- Nervous or agitated behaviour
- Loss of hair
- Pale gums
- Tapeworms
Fleas can be seen with the naked eye by inspecting the thinly-haired areas of your dog. Small brown fleas should be visible if they are present.
Using a flea comb can also aid in the removal of fleas; however, make sure to apply enough pressure so that the comb makes contact with your dog’s skin. You may also notice ‘flea dirt,’ which is actually flea faeces and resembles tiny bits of black pepper. If you stand your dog on a white towel and give them a brush, you should notice these black specks on the towel.
If you find no evidence of fleas following these tests but your dog continues to show symptoms, we recommend seeing a vet, as your dog could be allergic to something else.
Our recommendation – keep your pets protected from fleas with Fipnil Plus!
Fipnil Plus is a simple spot-on treatment for flea and ticks infestations as well as biting lice.
Fipnil Plus Spot-On Solution has an insecticidal efficiency against fleas that lasts up to 4 weeks in cats and dogs. Pet owners can also use it to treat biting lice infestations.
How does Fipnil Plus work?
Fipronil kills adult fleas and ticks by disrupting the nervous system of these unwanted creepy crawlies! While (S)-methoprene is absorbed by flea eggs or immature stages and prevents their development and growth – keeping your pet and home safe from a continuing infestation.
