What to Do When Your Cat Goes Missing

It’s every cat owner’s worst nightmare, your cat has been away for an unusual amount of time, what could have happened to your poor friend? Try not to panic, we’ve put together a short guide on how to maximise the chances of finding your cat again.

Check Your Property

Thoroughly check the whole of your property and nearby. Look in places that they may have gone for a nap, cats often like to hide away when getting some shut eye.

Make Some Sound

Try making some familiar sounds that may entice your cat to come out if they are nearby. Things such as shaking the dry cat food bag and calling out there name could be effective.

Speak to Your Neighbours

It’s a good idea to bring the situation up with your neighbors and ask if they have seen your cat around. Have them check their property thoroughly too. They could be hiding in a garage or greenhouse.

Contact Your Microchip Company

If your cat has been microchipped, be sure to check the company that you had the microchip registered with. Make sure that the information on the microchip is up to date in case anyone needs to contact you about finding them.

Post to Facebook/Twitter

Post a photo of your cat and a short description to your personal social media accounts. Also share this post on local pet-related pages such as pet supplies shops (you’re more than welcome to post missing pets to our Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/farmandpetplace)and vets, as like minded pet owners will help spread the word.

Create Posters

Use a program such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs to put together a quick poster with a photo of your furry friend, a short description and your contact details. Hopefully people around the local area will take notice and remember to be on the lookout for a missing cat.

Call Local Vets/Animal Shelters

Your kitty may have been taken in to a local vet or animal shelter, so it’s worth calling around to see if they’re holding any cats that sound similar to yours.

Talk to the Postman

People like the postmen or other local authority, who cover a wide local area are great people to ask for information. They may have seen your cat during their travels, and if not, will be on the lookout in the future.

Place an Ad in the Newspaper

Take advantage of any lost or found pet columns in your local paper. Check them daily to see if your cat becomes listed and add your own to let people know they are missing.]]>
