With the festive period now well and truly behind us, most of us will be looking towards how we can improve our diets and overall lifestyle. It is important to remember that our dogs also need some encouragement when it comes to getting healthier! We have put together some helpful tips on how to get your pets more active and what changes you can make to their diets. #1 Dental Dog Chews – Swap out your usual dog treats for a Dentastix product or another dental dog chew, these are great tasting chew treats that are also designed to clean your dogs teeth as they chew them. Have a look at our range of dental dog chews here. #2 Dog Toys – Try to introduce new toys whilst out with your dog. New toys will make them work in different ways. Get them to chase, catch, spin or jump. All movement is good and will keep them agile. If they are not keen on the idea then show them how its done! Not all dogs are this active though and an extra 5 minute work may do the trick. A range of dog toys can be found here. #3 Grain Free Diet – More dog owners are moving towards a grain free diet for their dogs as this replicates a more natural diet and is believed to reduce allergies caused by typical grain packed foods. With more options now available with grain free now is the perfect time to give it a try. Search for grain free foods here. #4 Swimming – Not the easiest new hobby for most dog owners but if you can let your dog go for a swim. Find a relatively safe part of the beach or lake and play fetch! Most dogs love to have a paddle and the benefits from swimming are as good for your dog as they are for yourself. #5 Running – Most dogs go for a walk most days but more could benefit from a quick run. You can take your dog for a jog with you or get them to play fetch or catch. If your dog is not up to it they will let you know! When it comes to encouraging your dog to become healthier it all comes down to how active your dog already is and what diet they are already on. You should not push your dog to over do it or put them on a food that causes allergies. Each dog is different and you should come up with a plan that suits them.]]>
