Description
The mix of ingredients in the Crestie Life provides an open structured substrate that will hold moisture, releasing it slowly into the atmosphere to maintain a high humidity.
Crestie Life also has another use which is a growing medium for live plants that need a neutral or acid soil. It is not suitable for plants that need an alkaline soil. Because of its moisture retaining qualities and open structure, Crestie Life is also suitable as an egg laying medium and eggs laid in it will not dehydrate before they can be collected.
Ensure you have the correct substrate for your type of pet as some reptiles prefer a more dry environment and need substrate that reflects this.
Directions:
Spread the substrate evenly over the bottom of the enclosure to a depth suitable for the species and use.
For use as a general substrate with arboreal lizards, a layer of 2.5- 5cm is sufficient. The substrate should be kept sufficiently damp to maintain the required humidity. Water can be sprayed onto the surface where it will quickly be absorbed or can be poured into one corner to create variations in substrate water content throughout the enclosure. It is important that the substrate does not become waterlogged as this could lead to stagnation and unpleasant odours.
Crestie Life should be spot cleaned daily, removing faeces along with the substrate around it and replacing with a small amount of fresh substrate. The nature of Crestie Life means that complete changes need only be carried out if the substrate becomes waterlogged or excessively soiled.
If a heat mat is being used as a heat source for arboreal species, it is recommended that this is mounted on the wall and at the top of the terrarium. If a heat mat is used under the tank then you cannot use a thick layer of Crestie Life as this may cause the heat mat to overheat.
