Description
Nyjer seed is a tiny, very fine seed that's oil rich and highly nutritious. It originally comes from an African yellow daisy. It's nutritional components are 35% fat, 18% protein and 18% fibre.
If you're looking to attract smaller birds and colourful finches to your garden, it's the perfect seed. If you're fed up of larger birds such a crows eating all your seed mixes, try nyjer seed as they'll usually avoid it. It is also eaten by Tits, Finches, Sparrows, Pigeons and Doves.
A popular winter food, as the garden birds require higher calorie and oil content than usual so they can store away fat to survive the cold temperatures. It's also useful at the end of fall and early spring as the protein will help regenerate feathers when they molt.
This seed has been sterilized and will not sprout if you spill it in your garden.
As the seed is so small/fine, it should be fed in a special nyjer seed feeder. It can also be sprinkled over a bird table.
