When setting up a vivarium for your snake or lizard, it is important that his new surroundings reflect his natural environment as near as possible. The ProRep coarse Beech Chips are perfect for using as substrate for species that require a dry environment. Put down a depth of about 5cm and your fascinating friend will revel in its touch, poking his tongue out to explore every inch of his surroundings. When he’s happy that all is o.k., he will nestle down and do what he does best, basking and anticipating his next meal.
Snakes can be quite fussy when it comes to the type of bedding that is put down for them. You will know if your exotic little friend is unhappy as snakes and reptiles are quite sensitive to their surroundings and they won’t quite be themselves. A happy snake is an active and healthy snake.
ProRep Beech Chips is a hardwood substrate sourced from commercially grown forests in Europe. It is kiln dried to kill any harmful organisms.
Ensure you have the correct substrate for your type of pet as some reptiles prefer a more humid environment and need substrate that reflects this.

Directions:
Spread the substrate evenly over the bottom of the enclosure to a depth of at least 1- 2” (2.5 - 5cm). Spot-clean daily by removing soiled or wet substrate and replacing it. Used beech chips should be disposed of and replaced every 2 weeks, or more often if heavily soiled. This substrate should only be used dry, and wet areas should be spot cleaned. If you are using an under-tank heat mat as your heat source, do not use a thick layer of beech chips as this may cause the heat mat to overheat.
