Video: Laminitis in Horses and Ponies
Laminitis in Horses and Ponies Laminitis is an extremely painful and possibly devastating condition in horses and ponies. It is most often the cause of lameness in horses and can have a crippling effect. It’s a disease that affects most hooved animals, as it is an inflammation of the tissue supporting the hooves. As with any harmful condition in animals, we’re asking the usual questions:
“What are the symptoms of Laminitis?” “How can you prevent Laminitis?” “Is there a cure?”
We’ve sourced a video that we think can help answer these questions. Whether you’re a seasoned equine owner, or new to the stables – we think this is an area everyone should be familiar with!
Hopefully, this video has given you a better idea of how to spot the symptoms of Laminitis, how to prevent it; and what to do when you discover your horse has the condition. We recognise the challenge of identifying what measures you can take to prevent Laminitis. At Farm and Pet Place, we can offer a range of products that help with the prevention of the condition. We’d recommend taking a look at specialist horse feed such as Spillers Happy Hoof, and Dengie Healthy Hooves. These types of feed are high fibre, low starch, and cereal, and therefore very beneficial for horses prone to Laminitis. Your horse could also benefit from an additional supplement such as Micronised Linseed, or you can have a browse of the many Horse Hoof Supplements we have to offer. If there’s anything you’re unsure of, then don’t hesitate to Contact Us. However, we would always advise going to your vet, first and foremost.
