Cat
Danny’s Day at Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium – In Pictures
here he shares his photos for our enjoyment!
I originally heard about Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium a while ago on the internet, due to it being the first cat café in London. Cat cafés are already very popular in Japan and the premise is simple, enjoy tea and cakes while cats roam around. Once I decided on a trip to London in the summer I knew I wanted to try it out as a new, interesting experience.
The café is currently very popular and on average you must book over a month in advance. However, some last-minute places sometimes do come up, of which one I was lucky enough to snag.
Upon arriving at the café at Bethnal Green we were ushered into a small room and informed of the rules. They were pretty simple, no waking the cats, no picking them up, no feeding them and to turn off the flash when taking photos. Otherwise the cats are free to be petted and played with as much as you like!
I decided to take a seat downstairs for the more comfortable seating and after noticing the cats on the top floor were sleeping. I chose a sofa in the corner next to staff door which eventually turned out to be a very good spot.
Due to the general quietness of the area and the appearance of staff that occasionally would come out of the door (bearers of treats), it seemed to attract cat after cat for me to watch, play with and pet.
My girlfriend and I ordered tea, a latte, lemon cake, rainbow cake, and a chocolate cronut…the latter of which I had learned about from the internet but had yet to try. It was a cute touch to draw a cat face on the latte froth and all the cakes were incredibly delicious with generous servings!
The staff at Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium were extremely friendly and often encouraged interaction with the cats. Upon seeing that you were playing with a certain cat they would tell you a little about them, their habits, and how they liked to be played with. One cat responded well to the fishing wire while another loved feathers, you really sensed that the staff love, care, and know lots about the cats homed there.
After around 2 hours and feeling too full on the cake I decided to make my move out, saying goodbye to cats I met on the way. I would jump at the chance to go again and would highly recommend it if you’re a fan of cats and around London!
