There are so many great charities out there who do fantastic work for animals across the world and in our local area. We thought we’d put together a list of animal charities in North Wales who deserve a mention for everything they do. We’ve included dog charities in North Wales as well as charities for all sorts of different animals from pet birds like parrots to small animals like hamsters. Please find a way to support them however you can, even if it’s just giving them a like on social media – many of these are smaller local charities and every bit of exposure helps. Dog Charities in North Wales
Greyhound Rescue Wales
Greyhound Rescue Wales is the longest established greyhound charity in Wales and the only all Wales charity dedicated to rescuing and re-homing greyhounds and lurchers. They focus on rescuing and re-homing greyhounds and lurchers and raising awareness that greyhounds make wonderful pets and to achieve proper legislation to protect racing greyhounds in Wales.
Almost Home Dog Rescue
Almost Home Dog Rescue are a small, passionate, dog rescue based in North Wales. They aim to provide a safe haven for dogs that have been abandoned through no fault of their own, rehome them, and to educate the next generation of dog owners.
Skylor’s Animal Rescue
Skylor’s animal rescue is a non profit rescue based in Dobshill, North Wales. It is run by family of 3 that aim to rescue & seek homes for unwanted & abandoned dogs. As a small dog rescue, they are grateful for any volunteers or donations whether monetary or in the form of dog food, toys, dog beds or other equipment.
Cat Charities in North Wales
Colwyn and District Cats Protection
Colwyn and District Cats Protection are a dedicated group of volunteers. They aim to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome cats and kittens in need, encourage neutering of all cats and kittens and educate the public on all aspects of cat care and welfare. They rely on volunteers and donations made to their charity shop on Madoc Street, Llandudno.
Eebie Jeebie’s North Wales Kitten Rescue
Eebie Jeebies is based in Llanberis and dedicated to the raising & rehoming of stray or abandoned litters of kittens in North Wales. Through fostering they are able to raise and socialise a small number of litters at a time. All kittens are brought up in a home environment with good food and care, at 8 weeks of age they will be made available for adoption via the facebook group.
Equine Charities in North Wales
Riding for the Disabled Association
RDA use horses and ponies to provide therapy, achievement and enjoyment to people with disabilities all over the UK.
Their network of 500 volunteer groups organise activities such as riding, carriage driving, vaulting, showjumping and Hippotherapy to up to 28,000 people each year. They offer activities for all age groups and, wherever possible, to people with any disability and have many groups in North Wales, including Conwy, Bangor and Anglesey.
Pet Bird and Wild Bird Charities in North Wales
The RSPB are the largest nature conservation charity in the country, and we are lucky enough to have our own RSPB reserve here in Conwy, North Wales. They do great work to protect the homes of endangered bird species all across the UK. It’s well worth visiting the Conwy reserve to see a fantastic array of wild birds while supporting a great cause.
Joan’s North Wales Parrot Rescue
North Wales Parrot Rescue is a non-profitable, self-funded rescue that do their own fundraising in and around the North Wales area. They help support people with bird’s behavioral problems, take in birds when their owners can no longer keep them anymore and match them to someone that can commit to them and give them a second chance in life.

Hamster Haven Rescue
Hamster Haven Rescue are a small non profit charity that takes in and provides a safe haven for unwanted, abandoned and neglected hamsters and other small animals throughout Cheshire and beyond.
General Animal Charities in North Wales
North Clwyd Animal Rescue
North Clwyd Animal Rescue (NCAR) is a registered charity founded that started small and now cares for over 1800 domestic pets a year. They look after all sorts of animals including dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs by re-homing abandoned or unwanted pets and caring for poorly animals.
Pet Rescue Welfare Association
The Pet Rescue Welfare Association provide vet, boarding kennel and pet day care services in Dyserth near Prestatyn. They are passionate about Animal Welfare and provide adoption and fostering schemes for both cats and dogs.
RSPCA Bryn-y-Maen Animal Centre
The Bryn-y-Maen centre provides specialist care for domestic and farm animals, and look after injured wildlife before release or transfer to one of the RSPCA’s four dedicated wildlife centres. Based in Colwyn Bay, they offer adoption and microchipping services.
Freshfields Animal Rescue
Freshfields Animal Rescue is a charitable organisation providing rescue and rehoming services to unwanted, abandoned and abused domestic animals across the North West. They also rescue, rehabilitate and release all manner of British wildlife and operate community support initiatives tying together animal welfare with education.
Snowdonia Animal Sanctuary
Snowdonia Animal Sanctuary are a registered non-profit organisation who are self-funded and rely totally on donations and the hard work of volunteers. Based near Betws-y-Coed, they are also a registered boarding kennels, but their main focus is the rehabilitation and rehoming of dogs who exhibit challenging behaviour.
Animal Charities Near North Wales
Act for Wildlife
Act For Wildlife is a community of experts and enthusiasts, led by Chester Zoo, taking action to protect the natural world. Their focus is on the wider world rather than just North Wales but their campaigns to save Songbirds and other endangered animals are great causes that we can all get behind.
Manchester and Cheshire Dogs’ Home
They may not be quite in North Wales but Manchester and Cheshire Dogs’ Home deserve a mention for their fantastic work. They take in and care for over 7,000 dogs every year, many of these dogs are never reclaimed by their owners so are made available for adoption.
